Meet April
April brings a thoughtful blend of knowledge, hands-on experience, and care to her work, shaped by her background in Human Geography, Social Justice, and Food Systems Sustainability. No matter the role—from Orchard Programs Manager with the Portland Fruit Tree Project to Environmental Consultant and Community Engagement Specialist with Samarah Group, and as a Board Member of the Home Orchard Society—her work has always centered around helping people reconnect with the land, their food, and the places they call home.
For more than 12 years, April has worked alongside clients to design, plan, and care for spaces that support both people and the ecosystems around them. Her projects have included community orchards, home orchards and food forests, rain gardens, and wildlife habitats—ranging from cozy urban backyards to larger shared community spaces.
Whether she’s creating a water-wise meadow, helping someone begin their backyard habitat journey, or teaching the art of pruning an heirloom apple tree, April’s approach is grounded, collaborative, and deeply relationship-centered. She believes meaningful connections with land and food can grow at any scale, and her goal is to help people create spaces that feel abundant, resilient, and alive.
